Dost MCP — Connector Documentation

Use Dost inside Claude and other AI assistants to query invoices, manage approvals, and analyse your finance data in plain English.

What is Dost MCP?

Dost MCP is Dost's official connector for AI assistants that support the Model Context Protocol (MCP) — including Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini etc.

Once connected, your AI assistant can talk directly to your Dost account: pulling live invoice data, surfacing what's due, running vendor and cashflow analysis, managing approval workflows, and exporting financial documents.

You stay logged in as yourself. Every action runs under your own Dost permissions and is written to an audit trail.

Requirements

  • An active Dost account
  • An AI assistant that supports MCP
  • Dost MCP is available to all Dost plan tiers

How to connect

In Claude (claude.ai)

  1. Open Claude and go to Settings → Connectors
  2. Search for Dost in the Connectors Directory and click Connect
  3. You will be redirected to the Dost login page — sign in with your existing Dost credentials
  4. Authorise Claude to access your account
  5. You're connected. Start a new conversation and ask Claude about your invoices

What you can do

Dost MCP exposes the following capabilities through your AI assistant:

📄 Financial document intelligence

Ask about any invoice — vendor, amount, due date, status, line items, taxes — without opening Dost. Analyse financial documents in a single request for portfolio-level queries.

Example prompts:

  • "Show me all invoices from Amazon Inc in Q2."
  • "What's the total VAT on invoices pending approval this month?"
  • "Pull the line items on invoice INV-4021."

📅 Due-date tracking

Surface what's due, overdue, or approaching deadline so nothing gets missed.

Example prompts:

  • "What invoices are due in the next 7 days?"
  • "Which invoices are overdue right now?"

🔍 Status visibility

See exactly where every financial document sits in the workflow — processed, in review, approved, rejected, duplicate, or stuck with an ERP error.

Example prompts:

  • "Why is invoice INV-5503 not integrated?"
  • "How many financial documents are currently pending approval?"

✅ Approval workflows

Create approval rules by describing them in plain English, assign workflows to financial documents, and reassign approvers when someone is unavailable.

Example prompts:

  • "Create a rule: any invoice over €10,000 needs approval from maria@company.com."
  • "Maria is on holiday — reassign her pending approvals to Josef@company.com."
  • "Which invoices are waiting on an approver right now?"

Note: Workflow creation and changes require you to confirm the proposed action before it is saved. The assistant will show you exactly what will be created and ask for explicit confirmation.

📊 Vendor analysis

Understand spend concentration, dependency risk, and supplier relationships across your business.

Example prompts:

  • "Which three vendors do we depend on most this quarter?"
  • "Show me total spend by vendor for the last 6 months."

💶 Cashflow intelligence

Forecast invoice-based short-term outflow and understand upcoming payment commitments before bills are due.

Example prompts:

  • "What's our expected outflow over the next 30 days?"
  • "What's the cashflow impact if we delay payments from Vendor X?"

📈 Historical analysis

Compare months, quarters, vendors, and categories to identify trends, anomalies, and savings opportunities.

Example prompts:

  • "How does our invoice volume this quarter compare to Q1?"
  • "Are there any vendors where our average invoice amount has increased significantly?"

⚙️ Data enrichment

Configure how external data feeds into Dost by describing the enrichment rules in plain English.

Example prompts:

  • "Set up a mapping rule so that 'if company name is ABC, than Tax ID to be 123’.

Security and authentication

  • Per-user sign-in: You sign in with your own Dost credentials through Dost's login page. No shared API keys, no passwords in URLs.
  • Permission-scoped: Every query and action is limited to what your Dost account can access. Dost remains the source of truth for permissions.
  • Confirmation on writes: Any action that modifies Dost data — creating a workflow, updating a data enrichment rule — requires your explicit approval before it executes. The assistant will show you the exact change first.
  • Full audit trail: Every tool call is logged with user identity, action taken, and outcome. Sensitive values are redacted from logs.
  • No credential storage in Claude: Dost MCP uses standard OAuth 2.0. Your password never touches the MCP server or Claude.

Tool permissions in Claude

When connecting Dost MCP, Claude will prompt you with an Allow All option. This gives Claude access to all Dost MCP tools — but tool behaviour still depends on whether it reads or writes data.

Read-only tools — run automatically, no confirmation needed. These only retrieve data, nothing changes:

  • Document intelligence, Due-date tracking, Status visibility, Vendor analysis, Cashflow intelligence, Historical analysis

Write tools — Claude always pauses and asks for explicit confirmation before anything executes:

  • Approval workflows (creating rules, assigning approvers)
  • Data enrichment (creating mapping rules)

To restrict access to read-only, skip Allow All and deselect write tools individually during setup. You can adjust this anytime via Settings → Connectors → Dost → Manage permissions.

FAQ

Do I need a separate Dost account to use this?

No. You connect using your existing Dost credentials. Dost MCP does not create a separate account or require separate access provisioning.

Can other Claude users see my invoice data?

No. Each user connects with their own credentials. Data is scoped to the signed-in user's permissions and is never shared across sessions.

Will Claude store my invoice data?

Claude processes your data during the conversation to answer your questions. For data retention details, see Anthropic's data handling policy and Dost's Privacy Policy.

I disconnected and reconnected — do I need to reconfigure anything?

No. Your Dost permissions and configuration are managed in Dost. Reconnecting just re-establishes the OAuth session.

What if a tool call fails or returns an error?

Common causes: your Dost session has expired (disconnect and reconnect), the financial document you queried doesn't exist in your account, or you don't have permission to access it. If the error persists, contact Dost support at support@mydost.ai.

Can my whole team use this?

Yes. Each team member connects their own Dost account individually. There is no shared credential or admin provisioning step required on the Dost side — though your Claude plan (Team or Enterprise) may require an admin to enable connectors in Claude's Admin Settings first.

Troubleshooting

Issue

Steps

"Not connected" error

Go to Settings → Connectors → Dost and click Reconnect

No data returned

Verify you have at least Viewer access in Dost; check that your query matches financial documents in your account

Workflow not created

Confirm you have the necessary permissions in Dost to create approval rules

Auth loop / redirect failing

Clear browser cookies and try in an incognito window; check that your identity provider allows OAuth redirects from claude.ai
