What is a Mapping in Dost?

A mapping is a rule that tells Dost how to populate or transform specific document fields based on predefined conditions.

There are four types of mappings:

1. Simple Mapping

For example: when the supplier is X, assign accounting account Y.

2. Mapping of a Mapping

For example: a mapping that depends on a previous mapping. If the first mapping applies Rule A, that Rule A can trigger another behavior in a subsequent (dependent) mapping.

3. Field Replication Mapping

For example: if a field is missing at the line-item level but is available in the document header, the header value can be replicated across all subsequent line items.

4. Calculation Mapping

Used to perform operations such as additions, subtractions, multiplications, divisions, and more.

For example, you can define rules such as:

• “If the supplier is X, always assign cost center Y.”
• “If the net amount is missing, calculate it from the gross amount.”

Using mappings correctly allows you to:

• Automate repetitive decisions that were previously made manually (cost centers, accounting accounts, internal codes, etc.).
• Reduce classification and coding errors in your ERP.
• Increase data consistency, improving financial close processes, reporting, and audits.
